Most important Questions before a Safari in Namibia
Do I need an international driving license?
All national driving licenses that are in English are accepted. If you license should not be in English, you will need an International driving license or a sworn translation of your license. Please be aware though, that international drivers licenses are required by law and that a some roadblocks in southern Africa you might be asked for your license.
Do you pick me up at the Airport?
Airport transfers are included in our rates. One of our staff members shall await you at the Airport holding a sign with your Name on it. We do monitor flights before arrival and shall be informed of any unforseen changes.
How can I pay?
We accept Bank transfers, cash as well as Visa & Mastercard payments. (No AMEX or Diners accepted). We need a 30% deposit payment to secure your vehicle for you.
Can I visit other countries in southern Africa?
It is possible to visit other countries, with prior arrangement, as we need to prepare cross border paperwork for you. You can also pick-up or drop-off our vehicles in other countries, again with prior arrangement and this also constitutes an additional charge. Where do I collect my vehicle?
Our office is based in Windhoek, Pionierspark. Upon arrival we pick you up at the Airport, and once you return your vehicle you will know where the location is. Drop off times will be arranged with you upon arrival. If vehicles are to be picked-up or dropped-off at a different location than our office, this needs to be arranged beforehand and will constitute an additional charge.
What is the age limit for drivers ?
African Elegance Rentals has imposed the following age limits for our vehicles. Minimum 21 years of age to drive one of our 4x4 vehicles, if younger than that, special arrangement can be made with Management, but it is still at the discretion of Management to allow this or not. A young driver surcharge shall also apply in this case. Our rates include 2 drivers per vehicle. A copy of the drivers license shall be taken upon arrival.
First time driving a four-wheel vehicle?
This is no issue at all! We hand over the vehicle in a lot of detail to you, explaining how everything works, and how to drive on the gravel roads in Namibia. We ensure you feel comfortable once you leave our premises. Also, most of our clients drive a 4x4 for the first time in their life.
How do I know how to use the camping equipment?
We provide you with everything you need for your Safari trip and explain all equipment, the tent and the vehicle at the handover with you. We make sure you understand 100% how everything works, by taking enough time to explain it in as much detail as possible.
Is it safe to camp in Namibia?
Camping in Namibia is easy and straight forward, you overnight at registered campsites at lodges or guest farms that are guarded and on private property. Namibia is one of the safest countries in Africa and very easy to travel through as a self driver.
Do I need a GPS or Satellite phone?
A GPS is included in all our rental vehicles and a Satellite phone is only necessary when travelling to very remote areas, such as the Okavango Delta or far north west of Namibia.
What connections do the vehicles have?
All our 4x4's are equipped with blue tooth, have a USB port and 12V port.
How does Insurance work in Namibia?
We have one type of Insurance for all our vehicles with an excess amount of N$ 2500.00. For more details click below on the button to read our detailed Insurance factsheet.
All our vehicles also have third party insurance.
Is my credit card needed?
Yes it is, we take down your details, as it is required by our T&C's and in case of an accident caused by negligence by the driver/client, we have the right to deduct the full amount of the damages to the vehicle from this card.
What speed limits are there in Namibia?
These vary for the different road types we have. Tarred road 120 km/h outside of Towns, 60 km/h in Towns and National Parks and 80km/h on gravel roads.
All our vehicles are fitted with a tracking device that also measures the speed. Should you drive faster then is allowed, it will start making a beeping sound and we get a notification of this. Remember. should an accident occur while you are driving faster than allowed, your insurance/contract and excess will lapse and you are liable for all damages caused.
If I encounter a problem with the vehicle, what do I do?
We offer a 24 hour emergency and breakdown service to ensure you can continue your trip as quickly as possible.
Once you call us on our 24 hour emergency line, we assess the situation and then react accordingly, by either assisting via the phone or sending you to the nearest partner that can assist with the challenge, or send out our Fleet Team to assist you accordingly.
Remember that there are some remote areas that we cannot guarantee 24 hour service in, as they are not accessible easily or out of reach of the normal cell phone network. The same is valid for other southern African countries.
What to do when in an accident?
Should this happen, which is unlikely, the first thing to do is call our 24 hour emergency number and report this to us. Then take Images of both vehicles or just your vehicle where damages have occured. Take photos of the drivers license of all drivers involved as well as ID/Passports.
Report the accident to the nearest Police station within 24 hours, to get the case number we need for the Insurance, if accident was not negligence.
